Players on the move – RB
As part 3 of our 3 posts reviewing noteworthy player moves, we will review the significant RB moves in the NFL this season that impact fantasy football draft strategy and advice.
Mike Bell to Philadelphia Eagles –
This move has more fantasy impact for the departing team than the new team, but Bell could still have some impact on the Eagles player values by his TD vulturing.
Fantasy Impact
On Eagles – Bell would be expected to be utilized primarily as a backup to Lesean McCoy which may hurt McCoy a bit if he loses a few carries, but the real potential hit to McCoy’s value comes if Bell becomes a go to option at the goal line and takes possible TD’s away from McCoy.
On Saints – [...]
Players on the move – WR
As part 2 of our 3 posts reviewing noteworthy player moves, we will review the significant WR moves in the NFL this season that impact fantasy football draft strategy and advice.
Anquan Boldin to Baltimore Ravens
Anquan Boldin moves from Arizona to Baltimore in a move with significant fantasy football implications for all teams involved.
Fantasy Impact
On Ravens – With addition of Boldin to the receiving corps, Joe Flacco should see a strong increase in value. Already a strong candidate for value at QB in later rounds, Flacco increases even more with Boldin on the team. Flacco will be one of my top QB’s to target in later rounds as part of implementing a QB by committee strategy on my fantasy teams.
On Cardinals -Boldin has been part [...]
Players on the move – QB
One of the items to consider as you are building your fantasy football draft strategy is to look at players that have moved to new teams and determine how it will impact their fantasy football performance. Solid fantasy football advice must evaluate these new inputs.
A move to a new team can breathe new life into an under-performing player (Randy Moss anyone) or increase the value of other players on the new team by being a better passer if it is a QB, by taking double team pressure off other players if it is a WR, or bringing a credible running threat if it is a RB.
There have been some significant moves in the NFL this year which could impact fantasy football drafts and [...]
What is ADP? How do I use it in developing my Fantasy Football Draft strategy?
ADP stands for Average Draft Position. As used in the general terminology of Fantasy Football advice and draft strategy it is a barometer of current player values as seen across multiple drafts. It allows you to have some insight into where in a draft a player is being picked on average, and where that player may be available.
ADP is a valuable tool, but must be combined with other forms of player research and analysis as each draft will be somewhat different. Don’t focus on ADP so closely that you “just know” that a player will be there for you when you are ready to take him. One of the best [...]
Just as important for your Fantasy Football draft strategy as knowing which rookies can be expected to produce (as seen in Top 5 Rookie RB’s), is to know which rookies have almost no chance to produce.
A sound piece of Fantasy Football advice is to avoid rookie quarterbacks. The learning curve for a QB in the NFL is much steeper than for a RB or a WR.
The four rookie QB’s below can be expected to possibly see some playing time in 2010 on the real NFL field. however, the likelihood of them seeing time on the fantasy field should be slim to none.
Sam Bradford, St Louis Rams – Bradford could be a reasonable pick at some point in a dynasty league or other deep [...]
Since we are in a pre-season stage in the NFL season, the Fantasy Football Advice being offered at present is going to be focused primarily on draft strategy as can be seen by the most recent posts on drafting for the playoffs, QB by committee, top rookie running backs, mock draft strategy, rookie mistakes, and league startup.
I look forward to continuing to provide valuable draft advice up until the start of the regular season. Then we will move to the “Who to Start and Who to Sit” discussions which are almost more fun than who to draft.

18 Game Season: Fantasy Football Implications
Discussions are running hot and heavy in NFL circles as a proposal to eliminate two pre-season games and replace them with regular season games is being circulated.
With strong support from the Commissioner’s office, this proposal is generating heated debate among players, owners, and fans. To summarize the proposed changes, the league would play 18 regular season games and move to 2 preseason games from the current 4.
What would be the Fantasy Football implications of this change?
The potential ramifications for fantasy football advice and strategy would be profound. An extended season would likely require all fantasy teams to also extend their seasons by two games. This could cause new schedule conflicts for league commissioners to manage as the new weeks are slotted in [...]
Start your studs is a piece of basic fantasy football advice that almost everyone hands out. It makes sense, and usually works, but can be difficult to enforce proper self-discipline at times. It usually takes getting burned at least once to really let it set in. My own learning experience is recapped below.
If I may, let me take you back to 2003. It’s a nice early season game (week 5) with Indy and Tampa Bay. Tampa is coming off a Super Bowl win and we think that they have another dominating defense. I have Peyton Manning on my fantasy team. This week I am facing a tough opponent and am going to need every point I can get so what do I do? Yep, [...]
Madden Curse – Drew Brees
Are you thinking of taking Drew Brees in your Fantasy Football draft as your starting Fantasy quarterback? If you are, you’re not alone. He is among the top players at his position and leads a potent offense. However, many of us fantasy owners have some kind of respect for the superstitions that permeate football. There are a lot of secret Sunday morning good luck rituals going on during the NFL season.
But I digress, the discussion was about Drew Brees and his fantasy prospects right? Well, the issues are related.
This is because Brees is on the cover of Madden 2011 this season which has been quite the jinx for the chosen players in seasons past.
It is likely that you have heard of the so [...]
Fantasy Football Playoffs: Draft for the Playoffs
For most Fantasy Football leagues, weeks 14, 15, and 16 are the playoff weeks and will determine who goes home with the trophy (and prize money) and who has to wait until next year. Take this Fantasy Football advice and pay attention to the matchups during those weeks during the draft (and during the season). While it is true that you have to make it to the playoffs for this to matter, it can be a difference maker once you are in the playoffs.
Something I look at when deciding which player to draft when they otherwise seem equal will be to see who they play in these important playoff weeks. A player with a cupcake schedule can be added or one with a tough [...]
