Fantasy Football Faceoff: Carson Palmer vs Eli Manning
For someone waiting until later rounds to draft a quarterback because they are following a quarterback by committee strategy, the decision between Carson Palmer and Eli Manning will be an important one. Both going in later rounds at similar ADP’s and both seeming like starting QB caliber material for a fantasy football team. Hard choice.
Carson Palmer is in his second year back from major knee surgery and is hoping for an improved season statistically this year. The Bengals have added some additional offensive firepower this year with Antonio Bryant (who may not make an impact after all) and Terrell Owens joining the team to complement the already solid Chad Ochocinco. Palmer will have no shortage of targets, and a decent running game to keep [...]
Fantasy Football Faceoff: Ryan Mathews vs Shonn Greene
The super rookie stepping into a great position and trying to fill a veteran’s shoes or the second year player who will be starting over said veteran. That is the choice with Ryan Mathews and Shonn Greene.
Ryan Mathews is just looking better and better and he looks to be the real deal as a rookie. In a lot of drafts lately he has been a first round selection, but he isn’t a consensus first rounder and is in mid 2nd a lot as well. Mathews has been discussed here before and we have our concerns on drafting a rookie to man up to that much of a spot on our fantasy team, but he is looking like the real deal. He does get to [...]
Fantasy Football Faceoff: Jahvid Best vs Felix Jones
This will kick off the first of several more “Fantasy Football Faceoffs” that will be coming out in the next couple weeks as we count down to the fantasy football season starting. We will be looking at players at almost all levels of the draft where two players are coming up as available at the same time and owners will have to choose who to take because they probably won’t be there on the next round. Where possible we are going to try to stay out of found 1 analysis here and look at mostly later rounds, with some 2nd round discussions as well.
Jahvid Best is the Detroit Lions rookie who will be looking to help lift the Lions up out of the perrenial cellar. [...]
My Favorite Fantasy Football Picks: Players to Target
Everyone has their list of players that they are targeting in their fantasy football drafts. These are the guys that you have decided have value and are usually being found at the right spots to make them an addition to your fantasy football team.
Here at this site, it is no different. The list below is my current top favorite players that I am targeting in drafts. There aren’t really any obvious “take Chris Johnson at #1″ guys here, just solid performers generally being drafted at what I believe to be rounds where they present good value. Not a lot of commentary in this one, just a list of my favorite targets at the present time.
Quarterbacks
Joe Flacco, Kevin Kolb, Carson Palmer, Matt Ryan
Runningbacks
Frank Gore, [...]
Significant Injuries Give Rookies Hope and Despair
Quick Fantasy Football News of significance to draft strategy.
It is being reported that Houston rookie RB Ben Tate will need ankle surgery which will impact his season this year. In other significant injury news, Buffalo Bills RB’s Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch were injured as well.
With Tate out for an indefinite period, but almost certainly long enough to impact his draft position, one of the possible rookie success stories just fell out of drafts. Look for Arian Foster to take over and steal his carries while displacing Steve Slaton.
While the other two Bills RB’s are expected to be back in time for the regular season or shortly after it starts, this does provide an opening for CJ Spiller to show us what he can [...]
Just a few days ago the results of this season’s first mock draft were posted and analyzed. While happy with the team overall, the wide receivers left something to be desired so I wanted to give it another try from the #10 spot. Those results with commentary and fantasy football draft advice are below.
Note: This was a 10 team league 14 round draft for 8 starting positions with 6 reserves. No flex, no PPR, standard scoring. I am planning to follow my expected strategy and want to practice from spot 10 which I recently wrote about and often find as a challenging position to draft from. The results are as below with some comments from me. Please share your evaluation in the comments section.
QB [...]
As much as we all want to select the right fantasy football draft sleeper we also want to avoid the fantasy busts. Sometimes not taking a player is just as good of a move as picking the right one. Be sure to hang around to the last two as they are sure to stir up some controversy.
The list below highlights my top 10 fantasy football bust candidates for 2010.
Quarterback Busts
Tim Tebow
Tebow shouldn’t even be on your team in a dynasty league unless it is as a later round flyer. He is being drafted far too regularly for his true value. He isn’t a fantasy capable starter at this time, and odds are that he will never be one. Let someone else reach for him.
Runningback [...]
Fantasy Football draft sleepers. The very thought of finding that player you secretly covet later in the draft brings joy to the seasoned fantasy football player’s heart. The real strength of a fantasy football team comes in the depth and value that is built in later rounds. Where in real NFL football Defense may make champions, in fantasy football, rounds 6-12 make champions.
The list below highlights my top 10 fantasy football sleepers for 2010.
Quarterback Sleepers
Joe Flacco, Carson Palmer, Chad Henne
All of these guys are hanging around late in drafts and provide superb value. While Henne is a little more of a risk, these are all great picks in late rounds for owners following the quarterback by committee draft strategy.
Runningback Sleepers
Ahmad Bradshaw, Felix Jones, Tim Hightower

Top 10 Defense and Kicker Fantasy Football Rankings
Rounding out the positional fantasy football advice below are rankings for team defense units for fantasy football draft usage.
NOTE: Even if they are ranked high, defenses still go no sooner than the last 2 or 3 rounds. Repeat, don’t take a defense early.
NOTE #2: Even though the title says kickers, there are no kicker rankings here. This site will not rank kickers as they should be chosen last in the draft and we don’t want to do anything to encourage otherwise. We made a judgment call as we almost chose the same thing relative to defenses, but kickers is where we draw the line.
New York Jets (Watch for what happens with Revis, they could drop)
Philadelphia Eagles
Baltimore Raven
Green Bay Packers
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cincinnati Bengals
Chicago Bears
San Francisco [...]
Continuing our fantasy football advice for draft day series with a look at the top tight ends to target in your fantasy draft.
Jason Witten -Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Clark -Indianapolis Colts
Antonio Gates -San Diego Chargers
The top tier, but I like the guys at 4-6 almost as much. Don’t overpay here, or buy into an early TE run. Be especially cautious about Gates as it always seems the person who selects him does so too high.
Vernon Davis -San Francisco 49ers
Brent Celek -Philadelphia Eagles
Tony Gonzalez -Atlanta Falcons
I am completely comfortable with any of these guys as my starting TE without having to pay the premium for the guys in the top three.
Zach Miller -Oakland Raiders
Kellen Winslow -Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jermichael Finley -Green Bay Packers
Owen Daniels -Houston Texans
