These are two relatively new faces who both have a little history and who both are looking to prove something this year. Having to choose between Knowshon Moreno and Matt Forte will be a choice many owners have to make when looking to fill in their RB position.
The first thing to know about Knowshon Moreno is that he had an injury in training camp, so evaluate that prior to making a final decision, but at last report he is expected to be ready for the regular season. Moreno is a nice back who has big expectations and many had targeted him as a breakout candidate in 2010. Playing for a Denver team that may have to rely on the run more this year with Brandon Marshall in Miami, Moreno is still an attractive candidate to have on your fantasy football team, but for me I want him as a 3rd RB, not one of my top 2 and sometimes he isn’t around for that as many are selecting him as their 2nd RB.
Matt Forte was a big disappointment last year, and is a common candidate for a turnaround season this year. After his strong rookie season, he was a letdown for owners and he didn’t justify the high draft pick he cost last season. His draft ranking this season is showing that, and if he does have improvement, he could end up being a very good value pick. With a new offensive coordinator, and an anticipated better passing offense than last season, Forte has far more upside than downside at his current ADP and it looks like all the bad news is priced in.
Count me pretty strongly in Forte’s camp in this faceoff. Even without Moreno’s injury status needing to be monitored Forte would be my pick here. He has only upside at the price that is being paid for him right now and as mentioned above all the bad news is already built in. With moderate improvement over last year and a return to his rookie form he can be a solid RB for your team. I still would be looking for him as my RB #3 instead of #2, but if I had to go with him at #2 would rather choose him than Moreno.

Nice comparison. You’re right about these two names being thrown around a lot. I’m with you on Moreno. Call me crazy, but I just don’t believe. He’s a fine RB3, but too risky at RB2. Overall, I would pick Forte as well, but don’t you think Chester will negatively effect his value? They have such similar playing styles that I’m worried his production won’t have much of an uptick from last season. Then again it won’t take much to improve on ’09’s numbers.
